Cincinnati putting $2M into stadium design

CINCINNATI (AP) — The University of Cincinnati will spend $2 million on design work for a new pavilion at its football stadium as it begins a major project aimed at attracting an invitation from the Atlantic Coast Conference or other major conference.

The school’s board of trustees voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the work at Nippert Stadium, with funding to come through bonds repaid with donations and ticket revenue.

Estimated at $70 million to $75 million, the renovation is targeted for completion in 2015 and would add more than 1,000 box seats and 28 private suites.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports the school sent a video description of the stadium project to all ACC presidents. Cincinnati is looking for an alternative to the Big East, which has been hit with other member departures.
