Camping may cost more in Plain City

The Plain City parks department has plans to simplify camping rates for 2013, according to parks board member and Village Council member Shawn Kaeser.

During Kaeser’s report to village council on Monday night, he explained the board’s recommendation.

The new prices, if approved, would be a flat rate of $25 per night for a camping site at Pastime Park.

The price would be for the water and electric sites and the more primitive ones. Eliminated would be the senior citizen discount, now available for campers at the park. Currently, the base price for camping at Pastime Park is $20 per night.

“The price increase will still be less expensive than nearby state parks,” Kaeser said.

Explaining the recommendation of removing the senior discount, Kaeser said, “It’s been hard to enforce.”

The price increase will be voted upon by village council. The first reading is scheduled for the March 11 meeting.

• Also on Monday night, Kaeser told council that the parks board has recommended that the price charged to the Mid-Ohio Classic Scooters group for its annual Plain City gathering should be frozen at $17,000 for the next five years.

Village Administrator Steve Hilbert explained that the price charged to the scooter organization has been steadily raising every year to get them to a sustainable $17,000 fee.

“This is a small show with great people to work with,” Hilbert said. “I think we should just leave the price at $17,000.”
