Madison County Democrat — J. A. Baer made a business trip to Columbus last Friday. (Was this to pick up a body? Mr. Baer was the local undertaker.)
— Mr. and Mrs. James Timmons are the happy parents over the arrival of a son. (This would have been Robert.)
— The members of the Coral Rebekah and the I.O.O.F. Lodges joined the ranks of the Columbus lodges and other visiting lodges and marched to the tabernacle in Columbus to hear Billy Sunday last Friday evening. About 1,500 participated.
— It is said by those who have made the necessary computation that the surface of the earth moves through space, at or near the equator, at the rate of 16 miles per second or 1,000 miles per minute. This inconceivable motion has no doubt something to do with cyclones, earthquakes and other terrible commotion. You do not hear of any tornadoes at the poles, as the motion is much less there. Will some teacher friends solve this problem, as it seems as though a thousand miles per minute is faster than possible. The problem, however, can be approximately solved by a school boy, who has mastered or understands geometry and higher mathematics.
