WASHINGTON CH — The Washington Lady Blue Lions won their fifth game in a row Tuesday, a 40-32 decision over visiting Shekinah Christian School.
It was a low-scoring first quarter and an even lower scoring second quarter Tuesday. Shekinah led 8-7 at the end of the first quarter and 15-11 at halftime.
Washington sprang to life in the second half, posting a 13-5 third quarter margin and winning the fourth quarter, 16-12.
Sophomore Carliegh Chaffins was the game’s high scorer with 11 points.
Annelise Rohrer of Shekinah led her team with 10 points.
“They are a very well-coached ball club,” Washington head coach John Persinger said of Shekinah. “They’re very skilled.
“In the first half, we just didn’t shoot well at all,” Persinger said. “That’s been a problem all year.
“Defensively, the girls are working very hard,” Persinger said. “We did a good job tonight getting out on their three-point shooters.
“I was very disappointed in our rebounding, They had so many second shots in the first quarter. After that, we settled down, started boxing out and getting rebounds and taking the ball to the hole.”
There was no big mystery about the change in fortune for the Lady Lions in the second half.
“In the first half, we missed four or five bunnies,” Persinger said. “In the second half, the shots kind of fell our way. We’re very pleased with this victory.
The Flames also got seven points apiece from Ashley Gingerich and Bridget Troyer.
Washington is 9-6 overall, 5-3 SCOL), Shekinah Christian dropped to 8-4 on the season.
