Broken-arm incident in Ohio school under review

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — A police officer who restrained an unruly middle-school Ohio girl who suffered a broken arm in the encounter last fall has been reassigned.

The Akron school superintendent and police chief agreed Friday to transfer the officer out of Jennings middle school.

Authorities are investigating the Oct. 26 incident involving the officer and the 13-year-old.

Superintendent David James told the Akron Beacon Journal (bit.ly/TOto8Q) that the reassignment isn’t a judgment on whether the officer did anything wrong.

James said in a statement released by his office that he wants everything running smoothly when the holiday break ends Monday.

The girl’s mother filed a complaint Nov. 7 on the incident, which was captured on surveillance cameras.
