Alder places third in own event

The Jonathan Alder wrestling team put together a strong showing at its marquee event Saturday.
The Pioneers scored 212.5 points and placed third behind event champion Worthington Kilbourne (290) and runner-up West Jefferson (249.5).
The rest of the field had Westerville Central (171) finishing fourth and followed by Springfield Northeastern (147.54), Johnstown (143), Whetstone (116.5), Centennial (112) and Independence (17).
Individually for the Pioneers Bret Yutzy won the championship at 126 pounds and Dustin Kuhlwein did the same at 285.
Meanwhile Jacob Eye placed second at 132, Shane Barker (160) and Troy Caldwell (220).
West Jefferson’s Gennar Feucht placed first at 132. Also winning championships for the Roughriders were Handley Sayre at 138 and Corey Ginn at 220. Louis Wemyss was second at 170.
“The kids have been improving as the season has gone along,” West Jefferson coach Nick Christopher said.
