Jan. 24, 1913

Madison County Democrat — Born to Gorman Clark and wife on Jan. 14, a daughter.

— B. F. Hoe has been assigned in Indian territory by the National Cash Register Co., with headquarters at Vincennes.

— At the annual meeting of the Farmer’s Telephone Co. last week, the following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, S. C. Smith; vice president, John Murray; treasurer, T. C. Gregg; and secretary, F. B. Biggert.

— The ladies of the Harmony Club met at the home of Mrs. D. R. Sidner last Thursday afternoon. A lunch was served after the regular program.

— The New Congregation Sunday School, which has been organized about two months, has the attendance of 109, and collection about $2.50. Rev. William McDaniels, pastor, preached a very interesting sermon Sunday.

— Rev. Jennie Linn opened the revival meetings at Millersport, Ohio last Sunday, for A. J. Williams of Georgesville, who will hold revival meetings at that place.

The Madison Press, June 25, 1953 — The slogan for the June traffic safety program, “Speeders Lose,” is more than just a slogan — it’s the truth. This statement was made today by Chief William McGuire, in pointing out that the most valuable item that speeders lose is their lives. Out of 1,263 drivers involved in 811 fatal accidents on state highways during 1952 in Ohio, 38 percent of them were reported as speeding.

— Mrs. G. C. Scheetz is seriously ill at her home on South Center Street following a stroke Saturday. Her children, Dr. Cornelius Scheetz, of Harrison, Dr. Maurice Scheetz, of Lima, Earl Scheetz, of Newark, and Mrs. Ermine Hayes, of Charleston, West Virginia, have been with her.

— Mrs. L. J. Young a lifelong resident of West Jefferson was honored at a dinner Thursday evening at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Young, in celebration of her 89th birthday.

— Mrs. Gertrude Stickel, 78, died Tuesday morning at her home on the Spring Hill Road following a year’s illness. Surviving are a son, Pearl, a sister, Mrs. Atelona Heller, of Indianapolis, and two brothers. (Spring Hill Road is now known as Olmstead Road.)

— Sheila, 3-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Harbage, is recovering after an operation for removal of tonsils and adenoids.
