Few US House races in Ohio truly competitive

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Three congressional Republicans in Ohio have won re-election to the U.S. House, including Speaker John Boehner.

Boehner was re-elected Tuesday to a 12th term, as he ran unopposed. Incumbent GOP Reps. Bob Gibbs and Bob Latta also secured their seats.

Other U.S. House races had a scattered amount of early votes being reported.

Just a handful of Ohio’s 16 congressional districts are competitive this year. Republicans are all but assured of keeping the majority of seats in the state. Democrats are favored in just four contests.

Republicans on the ballot include Samuel Wurzelbacher, who’s better known as Joe the Plumber.

A reshuffling of the districts in northeast Ohio has created a matchup between two incumbents. Democratic U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton is facing first-term U.S. Rep. James Renacci.
