Donald Lee “Donny” Akers, 64, of Mechanicsburg, passed away, Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, in the Dayton V.A. Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 8, 1948, in Flatwoods, Kentucky.

Donny served his country in the United States Army in the 9th Infantry during Vietnam.

He was employed with Honeywell-Grimes.

He was a member of the Urbana D.A.V.

Donny enjoyed gardening, car shows and restoring his favorite vehicle, his jeep. But most of all he cherished spending time with his family and grandsons, who lovingly knew him as Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Ann (Bostick) Akers; his daughter, Jennifer Fay Dozer of Mechanicsburg, his grandsons, Austin David Feyh, Logan Taylor Dozer and Marshal Lee Dozer; his sisters, Faye (Bill) Grimm of Elkview, West Virginia and Tammy Akers of Raceland, Kentucky; his brothers, Richard (Ruby) Akers of Flatwood, Kentucky, Denny Akers of Raceland, Kentucky, Larry (Vickie) Akers of Ashland, Kentucky and Bobby (Vicki) Akers Greenup, Kentucky; numerous nieces and nephews; his beloved pet, Zoey; special friends, Tony Ropp, Deb Deere and Matt Hayes, all of Champaign County; and his Honeywell Family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Essie (Boggs) Akers; and his brothers, Gene, Jesse, Gerald, William Clyde and Mack Akers Jr.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, in the SKILLMAN, McDONALD & VERNON FUNERAL HOME, 257 W. Main St., Mechanicsburg. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, in the funeral home. Pastor Linden Good will be officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
