Stephen C. “Steve” Smith, 62, of London, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, noon at Mount Carmel West Hospital.

Steve was born March 21, 1950, in Gibsonburg, Ohio, a son of Robert and Virginia (Potts) Smith.

He was a member of Saint Patrick Church for whom he played softball, including a few years as team coach.

For 18 years he was member of the London High School Marching Band ‘Pit Crew.’

He was retired from BCI after 30 years of service in 2003. Immediately following that retirement he went to work for the city of London in a part-time position.

He served in the United States National Guard after his graduation from Gibsonburg High School in 1968.

Steve is survived by his wife of 40 years, Suzy; daughter, Mikki (Mark) Dunkley of Cincinnati; grandchildren, Caitlin, Christopher, Brennan, and Noah; sister, Nancy (Jim) Stout of Gibsonburg; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry.

The family invited friends to call at the Saint Patrick Parish Center, 62 S. Union St., London, from 4-8 p.m. with a wake service to be held at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31. A funeral mass will celebrated at Saint Patrick Church at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012. Father Mark Ghiloni will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Kirkwood Cemetery, London.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers for memorial contributions be made to The American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available.

Steve’s funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the RADER-LYNCH & DODDS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 124 E. High St., London.
