James David Smith, 76, of Mt. Sterling, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 13, 1935, in West Van Lear, Kentucky, the son of the late Elijah and Roxie (Webb) Smith.

Jim was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 269 F&AM in Mt. Sterling; Sterling Chapter No. 74 O.E.S.; Knights of Pythias.

He retired as Equipment Manager for Mid-Ohio Chemical; most of all, enjoyed his employment at Rivers Farms hauling grain.

Preceded in death by daughter, Brenda LaFuse on Oct. 11, 1997; two sisters, Kathleen Conley and Geraldine Williams.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Patsy; son, David (Kathy) Smith; daughter, Kim (Roger) Johnson; four grandchildren, Brittany LaFuse, Parker LaFuse, Ryan Smith, and Ashley Johnson; son-in-law, Jeff LaFuse; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

A Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 331 W. Main St., Mt. Sterling. The interment will follow in Pleasant Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4.
