Report: Conditions improved at Ohio private prison

COLUMBUS (AP) — A report says conditions are improving at an Ohio prison that was transferred from state to private operation last year.

The report says the North Central Correctional Complex in Marion has seen reductions in cases where force was used on inmates and inmate-on-inmate assaults.

The report released Tuesday by the state’s Correctional Institutional Inspection Committee also said backlogs in medical services have been eliminated.

The last report in February had come just two months after the prison was transferred to Centerville, Utah-based Management and Training Corporation. It had also found serious problems with segregation units, including a lack of supplies such as toilet paper and soap.

The updated report said the segregation units had been significantly improved.
