Local food bank to benefit from illegally tagged deer

A Madison County food bank will benefit from a Plumwood-area man’s failure to properly check and tag the 9-point buck he harvested on the morning of Oct. 1.

Richard L. Turvy, 23, 240 Arthur Bradley Road, was convicted of the wildlife violation in Madison County Municipal Court on Oct. 24.

Magistrate Christopher Brown suspended a 60-day jail sentence for the third-degree misdemeanor, but fined Turvy $400 and court costs.

Brown also suspended Turvy’s hunting privileges for a year and ordered the man to forfeit both the processed meat and rack from the illegally tagged whitetail.

Madison County Wildlife Officer Matt Teders said the division will donate the venison to a local food bank.

Turvy must still pay Warner’s Deer Processing in Union County for converting the meat into jerky, summer sausage and bologna.

Teders said Turvy arrowed the buck, then checked and tagged it in his girlfriend’s name so he could continue to hunt throughout the season.

The officer said similar tagging violations are not uncommon in Ohio.

He caught Turvy’s actions through the division’s new on-line licensing and check system.

“The new computer system does amazing things,” Teders said.

In court, Brown warned Turvy against future violations of Ohio’s wildlife laws.

“There will be swift and certain penalties for this,” Brown said. “It’s a dangerous endeavor.”

Not everyone is stoned. Maybe if that had been the case the punishment would not have been so big. The stoned ones are in a group of their own and don’t get in that much trouble.
They get to go out and do what they want. Since you reference Plumtuckey you must be familiar with the area so you would know.
