DEYO
Shirley Deyo, 94, of London, died Thursday afternoon, Oct. 11, 2012.
She was born April 19, 1918, a daughter of Will and Kate (Moses) Summers.
Shirley was an Ohio State University graduate, and taught school for 22 years at Madison South/Madison-Plains High School. She also taught one year at London High School, and one year at the Ohio State School for the Blind.
She was a member of Grace Bible Fellowship in West Jefferson, and was active in many clubs and an officer in many of them. Shirley was a trustee on the Madison County Hospital Board and also the hospital’s Foundation Board, and was an active hospital volunteer for 19 years.
Shirley is survived by her six children and their spouses, Judy (Duane) Callender, Sheryl (Tony) Poplstein, Bruce (Jill Sue) Deyo, Wendel (Cindy) Deyo, Dustin (Jill Ann) Deyo and Melinda (Rick) McKenzie; 38 grandchildren; and 55 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Carolyn Gillespie; brothers, Bill Summers and Hal Summers; grandson, David Poplstein; and beloved husband, Ralph.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at the London First United Methodist Church, London, Ohio, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012. Immediately following the service, there will be a reception.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley’s memory to the Madison County Hospital or Loving Care Hospice.
