Jean Ellen Stevens, 71, of West Jefferson, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, in Mill Run Care Center, Hilliard.

She was born Dec. 13, 1940, in Canton, Ohio, the daughter of the late James and Mary (Keesy) Beatty.

Jean Ellen was a member of the West Jefferson United Methodist Church.

She worked for nearly 30 years as a secretary for the Ohio Department of Mental Health. During the last 8 years that she was with the Department, she worked as a secretary to the director.

She enjoyed doing crafts, including ceramics.

Jean Ellen spent several years as a leader for Citizen’s Sam, an organization that put together and sent care packages to the military all around the world.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ron Stevens; sons, Greg (Teresa) Stevens and Jim (Jessi) Stevens, both of West Jefferson; grandchildren, Pami (Chaz) Curry of West Jefferson, Shelbi Stevens of West Jefferson, Jami (Pat) Thornton of Hilliard, Jennifer (Chris) Pannelle of Blacklick, Ohio and Jenna Stevens of Bexley, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Cade Thornton, Payton Curry, Cloighi Curry and a great-grandson due to arrive in November, James Nichols; brother, Ron (Karen) Beatty of West Jefferson; as well as eight nieces and nephews.

Jean Ellen was a mother figure to many.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30, in the RADER-McDONALD FUNERAL HOME, 1355 W. Main St., West Jefferson. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, in the funeral home. Rev. Patricia Oesterle will be officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Galloway.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
