GOLF: Red Raider boys finish third at SCOL tournament

The London boys golf team made a strong push toward a South Central Ohio League title but came up just short Saturday.
Washington fired a 341 at Buckeye Hills to claim the tournament championship and the overall league crown.
Miami Trace with its 342 slipped into second place at the SCOL event and squeezed the Red Raiders out of the championship chase.
Coach Richard Cunningham’s team shot a 347, it’s finish left the team 23-5 in the league one game behind over champion Washington (24-4).
London was led by Austin Smith’s 84. Bradley Wilson and Ethan Drummond had identical rounds of 87, while Jacob Myers and Kyle Merkle each posted 89s. Jeremy Alder finished with a 95.
“I was pleased with five scores in the 80s,” Cunningham said. “It has been a number of years with five players (in the 80s).”
The rest of the league overall standings saw East Clinton (11-17), Clinton-Massie (11-17), Hillsboro (10-18) and Madison-Plains (0-28), which shot a 427 on Saturday.
London’s Wilson picked up first-team All-SCOL honors and Smith made the second-team.
London along with fellow Madison County schools Jonathan Alder and West Jefferson will play in the
D-II sectional tournament Tuesday at The Players Club.
Madison-Plains will compete in the D-II sectional at the Granville Country Club.
