Anyone who thinks the current court house is meeting the needs of the county really needs to drop by one day for a visit. I will grant you that the upper level rarely appears too crowded unless a particular trial has a lot of local interest. The area to visit is the basement. The municipal courtroom sees many, many cases each day ranging from traffic violations to more serious charges. There are several defendants, witnesses, and lawyers all crowded into the public area awaiting their case. Add on top of that all the juvenile cases that also check-in for their cases in the same area. I love the look and feel of the court house, but the building will serve us better as a home for the various county offices and move the court rooms to a facility better adapted for that purpose.

A modern courthouse wouldn’t be the same. The current one is part of the charm of London. When I was there this spring, it seemed to be in good condition. Spend the money on something else.
