The Madison-Press

Demonstration of painting sunsets

This week at the Madison County Senior Center, I will be demonstrating painting sunsets. Demonstrations will be done in acrylic paint but the same process is used also in oil paint. When using watercolor, it is different.

The class starts at 9 a.m. Friday at the center. The demo will start at 9:15 sharp.

I will bring in some examples of sunsets I have painted of various sizes in oils and acrylic. You may come and paint or just watch, the choice is yours. I will be discussing colors, painting brushes, procedures and composition when the sky is the dominant subject. I will be working on several paintings at the same time. If you want to see an artist really moving around, come and watch me sweat or paint whichever the case may be.

The demonstration is free as are the Friday classes from 9-11 a.m. We do have a donation basket for those who wish to contribute but it is by no means required.

Many of the class regulars will be working on their own projects so there will be a variety of subjects being painted and other media used.

Don’t worry about bothering them, they like to show off their stuff. In fact this is one of the few groups where everyone really teaches.

I am sort of a conductor of an orchestra of color. It’s a great class to be a part of and your presence will be welcome.

Next week we will finish some sunsets and start preparing to paint fall trees, so there is a lot of variety.
