There wasn’t a winner in the boys soccer match played Thursday between host Madison-Plains and rival London, but you’d have a hard time telling based on the reaction of the two teams as they came of the field.
The Golden Eagles (1-2-1) players were all smiles and almost giddy, while the Red Raiders (1-2-1) players hung their heads about the 1-1 tie they had just played to.
“When you’re playing against your crosstown rival the only thing you have in your head is win this game,” London coach Steve Baker said.
London took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by sophomore Nathan Newman. Nick Wolfe got the equalizer in the second half for the Eagles
“They know that we didn’t capitalize on our opportunities,” Baker said, “and we’re not real happy about it right now.”
West Jefferson 7,
Grove City Christian 0
Few can remember the last time a West Jefferson boys soccer team started the season 4-0.
That’s exactly where the ’Riders stand after they trounced Grove City Christian last night.
Austin Bare scored three times, Gennar Feucht twice and Dallas McLean and Cole Bare each netted one.
“We’re playing pretty well right now,” West Jeff coach Jay Hunter said.
