Wolverton named new London athletic director

London City School District Board of Education members selected Jim Wolverton as the high school’s new athletic director during their Tuesday night meeting.

The vote was 4-0. Board member Marvin Homan was absent

Wolverton has served as the school’s assistant athletic director and head baseball coach at the school, among other duties. He led the Red Raiders to their South Central Ohio League championship this past baseball season.

He earned a master’s degree in sports administration from The Ohio State University in 2007 and his bachelor’s degree in sports administration from Wilmington College in 2005.

He is a 2002 graduate of Madison-Plains High School.

Wolverton will replace Ben Mann, who is leaving at the end of July. Mann has accepted a post as assistant principal and athletic director for the Southernwells Community School District in Indiana, located about 30 miles south of Ft. Wayne.

I think Jim will do a fine job and I bet his dad would be proud. Shame on you haters. He needs support, not hate before he’s even outta the gate.

As a PROUD London alumnus, I agree with Brian 100%. Continuity is exactly what is needed and with so many employees deciding to use London as a stepping stone to advance their careers and move else where hiring a qualified individual that is from this community is a wise decision. Something is to be said for loyalty especially when the going gets tough. In response to Patty – I have no relatives living in London City School District since you seem to think that has some bearing on my opinion. My opinion is based on having children in the school district currently involved with sports along with being an active member of the community that I am proud to have been raised in and choose to raise my family in.

Yeah, you’re probably related to him too. A fresh start in a new league is exactly the right time for fresh people in there.

I think this is a good choice! Continuity is what is needed, and Jim already knows and works well with the students & coaches. There are big enough changes coming next year with the move to the new league. No need to move away from the fresh start athletics has seen under Mr. Mann.

way to go internal…when will London City Schools realize they need to bring in people from outside the district…thats the change we need.
