Fred McGath, 89, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Sterling Place where he resided for the past 9 months under the care of Loving Care Hospice.

He was born July 25, 1922, to Fred and Jessie McGath of Mt. Sterling.

Fred was the last member of his family.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Fred retired from Westinghouse after 30 years of service.

Fred enjoyed fishing and restoring antique furniture.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; his wife, Donna; and his infant daughter.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (Sherry) Slagle; her husband, Ken of Yellow Springs, Ohio; son, Steve McGath and his wife Judy of Casa Grande, Arizona; grandchildren, Brian Slagle and Theresa of Battlefield, Missouri, Dawn Slagle of Urbana, Ohio, Kathy Necaise of Peerkinston, Mississippi; great-grandchildren, Scott, Kimberly and Cheyenne; very special friend, Bill Gill.

In keeping with Fred’s wishes, cremation was requested. A graveside Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012, in the Dennison Chapel Cemetery. Pastor Jim Fannin will be officiating. A military service will be performed by the Circleville Amvets Post No. 2256. The family is being served by the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 331 W. Main St., Mt. Sterling.
