Red Raider baseball punishes Mifflin, 15-1

The London baseball team had no trouble with visiting Mifflin in the opening round of the Division II tournament last night.
The Red Raiders, who are now 19-4, scored early and often against the 3-14 Punchers, winning 15-1 in five innings.
The Red Raiders’ first two batters, Jake Burns and Zach Carey, both had two hits, while London had nine for the game.
On the mound, senior Kyle Spencer was dominant. He did not allow an earned run, while striking out eight. He gave up just two hits and walked only one.
London will host eighth-seeded Bishop Watterson tonight.

HEATH — The West Jefferson baseball team gave up four runs in the top of the seventh inning en route to losing to Heath in the first round of the Division III tournament on Tuesday.

OBETZ — The London softball team opened the Division II tournament with a road victory at Hamilton Township on Tuesday night.
Rachel Long paced the Red Raiders with a double and two singles, while Makayla Juergons had two singles.
“We played some good defense and that was a big part of it,” London coach Kelly Nelson said.
London will play second-seeded River Valley tonight.

Jonathan Alder pitchers Stephanie Hinch and Kylie Miller combined to one-hit visiting Linden McKinley in the opening round of the Division II tournament on Tuesday.
The Pioneers scored six in the first inning, four more in the second and two more in the third in the five-inning victory.
Freshman Samantha Headings cracked a first-inning, two-run home run.
