Ohio sheriff: discipline over jail cell condition
COLUMBUS (AP) — An Ohio sheriff is promising discipline against dozens of deputies following an investigation into filthy conditions in a jail cell where an inmate died of a heart attack last fall.
Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott says the man’s death was not related to the cell’s condition but the state of the cell prompted the investigation.
WBNS-TV reported Thursday that as many as 50 employees could face discipline.
Scott says he is holding everyone responsible, including supervisors, as part of the investigation at a jail facility a few miles from downtown Columbus.
Scott says although the conditions were limited to a single cell, one dirty cell is too many.
