MPHS falls just short Friday

The Madison-Plains baseball team almost pulled it out Friday.
The Golden Eagles fell just short against visiting Hillsboro, the second-place team in the South Central Ohio League, 6-5, in eight innings on Friday.
The Indians (11-8, 9-3) can claim a share of the SCOL championshp with a win Monday and a London loss to visiting Clinton-Massie.
The Red Raiders win the championship outright with a win.
The Golden Eagles plated four runs in the bottom of the second.
Hunter Butin singled to rightfield with the bases loaded making it 3-2, Madison-Plains.
Paul Meier drove in two more with his double to rightfield later that inning.
The Indians got the scoring underway in the first inning when Paul Snyder singled to right to bring home Brandon Wilson.
Corey Walker later scored on a passed ball to make it
2-0 Indians at that point.

Shawnee 3
London pitcher Austin Smith was outstanding last night, giving up just a run in six complete innings of work to earn the victory.
He surrendered just three hits.
At the plate, Kyle Fisher was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and two RBI, while Kory Downing was 2-for-2 with a RBI.
London is now 15-3 overall.
Shekinah Christian 6,
Westfall 3
The Shekinah Christian baseball team won its fifth straight on Thursday, topping visiting Westfall.
Justin Helmuth pitched a complete game, four-hitter.

Softball
Madison-Plains 14,
Hillsboro 4, five innings
The Madison-Plains softball team had little trouble with visiting Hillsboro on Friday in South Central Ohio League action.
The Golden Eagles sent 13 batters to the plate in the second inning en route to scoring nine runs in the frame.
Emily Blosser and Madison Betz each collected two-run singles to center in the inning.
Madison-Plains (8-11, 5-6) had six hits, while Hillsboro (3-16, 2-9) committed four errors in the inning.
Blosser, Betz, Courtney Patton and Abby Oravec all finished with two hits for Madison-Plains, which had 12 for the game.
The Golden Eagles did not commit an error.

M-P girls win
The West Jefferson boys and the Madison-Plains girls track teams won tri-meets on Thursday.
On the boys side, it was West Jefferson (76), Gahanna Christian (48) and Madison-Plains (35).

Tennis

Hillsboro 2
The London boys tennis team improved to 5-8 overall and to 3-3 in the South Central Ohio League with victory over Hillsboro on Thursday.
At third singles, Kyle Weese, won 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles play, Tyler Cox  and Will Albrecht prevailed, 6-0, 6-2, at first doubles, while Drew Sollars and Colin Dach won at second doubles, 6-0, 6-1.

The Jonathan Alder boys tennis team defeated Bloom-Carroll, 4-1, on Thursday.
In singles play, M. Yates (BC) def. D. Troyer 3-6, 6-4, 6-4; S. Schoppelrei def. D. Danford 6-1, 6-0; K. Yoder def. A. Bennett 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles play, Colvin/Ferko def. Thompson/Pace 6-4, 6-4; Byers/Beachy def. Oster/Zaradzinski 6-1, 6-2.
On Friday night, Jonathan Alder defeated Central Crossing 5-0.
In singles play, D.Troyer def. S. Taylor 6-2, 6-2. C.Colvin def. M.Yaknitskiy 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. and K.Yoder def. M.Bostard 5-7, 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles action, Schoppelrei/Eye def. Valenzi/Garcia 6-1, 6-3. and Byers/Beachy def. Mrleshchuk/Deep 6-1 ,6-0.
Jonathan Alder is now 5-8.
