The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Despite its youth, the West Jefferson wrestling team won its sixth consecutive Mid-State League/Cardinal Division championship on Saturday at West Jefferson.
The Roughriders have won the MSL title all six of the years they have been part of the MSL.
“Overall, I thought we did a great job,” West Jeff coach Nick Christopher said. “The kids gave 100 percent. I can’t ask for anything more.”
The Roughriders won nine of the 14 weight classes. Gennar Feucht (126 pounds), Hayden Fulton (132), Handley Sayre (138), Ricky Ratcliff (145), Kyle Cochran (152), Josh Rowlands (160), Evan Klever (170), Carter Harris (195) and Cory Ginn (220) all captured MSL titles.
West Jeff has had 51 first-team, all-league wrestlers during the last six-year span and is 27-0 in the league during its time in the league.
The wrestling program is the only one in the MSL and the only program in West Jeff that has remained undefeated in the league over the past six seasons.
• At the South Central Ohio League championships Saturday at London, the Red Raiders placed three in the finals and two captured championships.
Arron Thompson won the championship at 138 with an 8-7 victory, while Jared Chastain won by pin at 170.
