More than 70 pets rescued from Ohio house fire

MOUNT HEALTHY, Ohio (AP) — Firefighters have rescued a menagerie of more than 70 pets from a house fire in a Cincinnati suburb.

Multiple news outlets report that authorities were called to a fire at the home in Mount Healthy on Thursday morning. They arrived to find dozens of animals — including 18 rats, 12 rabbits, a hedgehog and a chinchilla — inside the house.

Most of the animal survived the fire, though one iguana and a couple cats died.

Owner Nikki Hagaman was not at home when the fire started. She told reporters she works at a nearby pet store that also serves as an animal rescue.

Hagaman tells The Cincinnati Enquirer she has at least 77 pets. She says she can’t say no when it comes to providing a home for animals.
