HUNTER

Rodney J. Hunter, 86, of Springfield, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012.

He was born March 24, 1925, in a farm home in Pleasant Township in Franklin County, Ohio, the son of Garnett L. Hunter and Caroline Haenszel.

His early life was spent in Range Township in Madison County.

He graduated eighth grade from Johnston School, near Chenowith Corners in 1931.

He graduated from London High School in May 1942.

He served in the United States Air Corp from June 1943 to February 1946. He attended Wittenberg University.

He retired from Wright-Patterson AFB in May 1976, after 33 years of service.

He was a charter member of Northridge United Methodist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife Betty of 63 years; brother and sister-in-law, Virgil and Shirley; sister-in-law, Mary Hunter.

He is survived by four sons and one daughter, Ronald (Cindy), Brenda (Glenn) Temple, John (Debra), Scott (Melissa) and Brett (Carol); brothers, Kermit and Garnett (Valda) Hunter; sister, Marclene (Kenneth) Slyh; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Peterman; brother-in-law, Robert Long; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at JACKSON LYTLE & LEWIS FUNERAL HOME, 2425 N. Limestone St., Springfield. Burial will be at Paint Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, also at the funeral home.
