Do ourselves a favor: Pray for our government
I am looking into buying a new I-phone since the 2-year contract on MY-phone is ending. But to be fair and balanced I thought maybe I should look into buying my wife a new I-ron — something she can use every day if she wants to.
Jony Vaisalles made the remark that he thinks the American public is too ignorant and apathetic regarding the effects the 2012 elections are going to have on America’s future.
He asked Jeky Vaisnix what he thinks about it to which Jeky replied, “I don’t know and I don’t care.”
I know many Christians who feel their only duty to government is to pray for it and pay their taxes and complain how much they are. They won’t get off their tush and vote. The right place to complain about the way our country is going is in the voting booth.
I know some don’t vote for conscience sake.
Others don’t vote because he/she doesn’t agree 100 percent with any candidate’s philosophy or ideology. In this regard let me say it this way. If you are going to wait until you find a person you agree with 100 percent of the time on every issue before you vote, you never will vote neither will you ever get married.
There is no earthly government Christians can agree with 100 percent because there will be no such thing as a Christian government (as long as the devil has power over the nations, Luke 4:5-6) until Christ comes back to set up his government. Then his will will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Until then it isn’t going to happen.
So what are Christians to do? The prophet Jeremiah had some advice from God on how to conduct themselves in an ungodly nation when the Jews were taken captive into Babylon.
Here is what he wrote to them, “Work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare.” Jeremiah 29:7 (New Living Testament).
Daniel, a Jew, was taken as a slave into Babylon. He worked for the ungodly government and exerted his influence on it and made it a better government than what it would have been without him.
Christians in America are blessed because America has been blessed, not because we are Christians.
There is no promise in the New Covenant/New Testament that believers will be blessed with health and wealth for following Christ. When America’s wealth goes south, the Christians wealth in America is going to go south with it.
We Christians need to pray for our government and work to make the best of it while we are here until Jesus comes again. Then we will have a righteous government.
Until then, may you have a blessed week unless you have other plans.
Maranatha. (Maranatha means, “Our Lord Cometh.”)
