People who turn their backs to God cannot see God

I saw a disturbing but true bumper sticker last week. It read, “Without God — one nation under.” It seems to me the soul of America is turning its back on God. By the same token I sense God is turning his face away from America.

In Matthew 16:2-3 (English Standard Version) the Pharisees and the Sadducees asked of Jesus if he would give them a sign from heaven. He answered them, “When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ And in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.”

The United States is going through a terrible year in regards to weather related calamities. We had tornadoes tear up the central and southern parts in the spring. We had floods drown out the east coast this summer. Fires are burning up crops and houses in Texas and Oklahoma. What the fires don’t burn up, drought is burning up.

And what do our atheist scientist blame it on — global warming caused by man’s activity. I say atheist because — a practicing atheist is a person who has no fear of the Lord and/or lives his life as though there were no God. You can call yourself an atheist, or agnostic, or a Christian or whatever else but, if you live like there is no God, you are practicing atheism.

In biblical history God often showed his displeasure with man’s evil conduct through natural event. In Psalm 105:32 (English Standard Version), “He gave them hail for rain, and fiery lightning bolts through their land.” In Psalm 135:7 (English Standard Version), “He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth, who makes lightnings for the rain and brings forth the wind from his storehouses.” And in Isaiah 45:7, “I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create calamity; I, the Lord, do all these things.”

There is another heat wave coming in the last days that will surpass anything we have ever seen on planet earth. In Revelation 16:8-9 it reads, “Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory.”

When people turn their backs on God, they can no longer see what God is doing and consequently do not know and cannot see where to turn (repent) for help. They keep right on going down the path to their own destruction. Is it too late for America to see what God is doing to try and wake us up?

May you have a good week unless you have other plans.

Maranatha. (Maranatha means, “Our Lord Cometh.”)
