Robinology: A lesson from the birds
I am sitting here in sunny and very warm Sarasota where it is so dry people are praying for rain. Here it is so dry things don’t grow, in Ohio it is so wet you can’t plant anything to grow. Our country could be in a hurt for food if things don’t get straightened out soon.
I had a good lesson in Robinology the past six weeks. We have a bronze colored metal star hanging outside beside our patio door. In April a robin came along and wanted to build a nest in the corner of two star points.
Walking by one day I noticed this mess on our patio. On a closer look I saw where it was trying to build its nest but it looked to me like more stuff was falling to the floor than what was hanging on the star. I told my wife that dumb robin is trying to build its nest on our star and making a mess on the patio. In my mind I thought — what a waste of her time, it will never get a nest built that will stay on the star for her to lay her eggs and hatch them.
One day to my surprise, I came home and there was that robin sitting on a nest on the side of our star. When it saw me, it flew away. So I checked out the nest. It had laid four eggs in it and it was in the the process of hatching them.
The nest sure did not meet our governments building code. First of fall, it did not have a building permit. Secondly, it did not build a plastic fence around the patio to keep the material that fell onto the patio, while it was building it, from blowing around and getting into my wife’s flower bed. Thirdly, the foundation was precariously hanging onto the side of the star. It would never pass inspection. Fourth, it did not have a rail put around its nest to keep the little ones from falling out if they got restless after they hatched. Fifth, it was built to near a busy highway.
Being sovereign ruler over the situation, I had several choices I could make. One, since I don’t like the idea of someone/something invading my territory and making a mess, I could just tear the nest down and throw it in the trash.
Since we already have enough robins coming around, landing on top of our shepherd hooks and depositing unwanted crap in our hanging plants and on our patio. I thought I will just toss her eggs in the trash. No harm in that is it? They are not robins yet. It would relieve the mother robin from having to spend the next three to four weeks sitting around hatching them and depriving herself of all the fun and freedom other robins were having around our place — but I didn’t do it.
On the day the eggs hatched, I thought of taking the little ones and putting them down on the patio where the cat could get them and enjoy herself a warm meal — but I didn’t do that. Honestly, I didn’t even think of doing any of the above. But if you felt any kind of anger or resentment toward me for saying I thought of disposing of its eggs or giving its young ones to the cat, why, in God’s name, don’t you get upset at the mothers who are aborting their little pre-born babies and throwing them in the trash and get upset at the doctors who do it for them? Which has more value to you, a robin egg in a nest or a baby in the womb?
As I observed the robin building her nest, hatching her young and taking care of them, I made some observations. The robin, without an engineering degree or any government aid or advice, was able to build its nest and take care of and feed its young. That is more than the government thinks its citizens can do.
I do not believe that the robin just evolved. The robin was created by an intelligent Creator who placed within the robin an IQ and a GPS whereby it can find its way south in the winter, back up north in the spring, build a nest, lay eggs, hatch them and take care of its little ones until they can go on their own and repeat the process.
The birds in our area seem to function very well just following the directions and instincts their Creator gave them. They wake up early every morning singing birds songs and chirping praises to their Creator then go about doing their business according to the Creator’s plan for them.
You know I don’t believe in evolution but I am beginning to wonder. I know the Bible tells us that all government is ordained of God but it also tells us God is not the author of confusion. So either God did not ordain our government or our government is not listening to God like the rest of His creation does. Example, the birds aren’t confused and clueless what to do but then, they don’t have a congress making laws for them to live by either.
The government teaches all things evolved from a soupy, IQ-less mess. Could it be possible that is what our government evolved from instead of being instituted by God? If it and its citizens keep on going in the direction they are headed, it may yet make a believer in the evolution of government out of me.
May you have a good week unless you have other plans.
