LES students to attend summer honor choir
For The Madison Press
Every year, the Ohio Choral Directors Association holds a Children’s Honor Choir in conjunction with their summer professional development conference.
The choir is for students who have just completed grades 4-8. Students are selected by music teachers based on musical ability and dedication to music.
Participants attend two Saturday morning rehearsals in June and then spend three days and two nights at Otterbein College in Westerville preparing to give a concert.
The concert is the final event for the OCDA conference and is attended by music teachers from around the state of Ohio.
Choir members are chosen from all over Ohio to work with a nationally renowned choral conductor. The concert will include the premier of a song commissioned just for the choir.
For the past five years, members of the LES choir have attended this event.
This year, London Elementary music teacher, Kathleen Bates has nominated the largest group ever- 17 singers. Of those 17, 11 are able to attend the event. This will be a wonderful opportunity for these fifth-graders to expand their musical experience.
OCDA Honor Choir Participants are first row: Jessica Minner, Ruth Peart, and Destiney Ellars; second row: Olivia Rafferty, Kennedy Barker, Chloe Fout, Hobbes Treynor, and Simon Ruesch; third row: Lindsea Morris, Sarah George, and Aaron McKnight. All participants are currently in the fifth grade at London Elementary.
